A Few More Stupid Question

Please bear with me. So I have been going over my new to me H240. It's beautiful and by all appearances seems to be in great shape. During our cleanup of her interior we have found two compartments under the V berth cushions. The aft one contained four brand new life vests( a nice surprise). The more forward compartment has a lid held in place by four screws but when removed the cover was still held in place by sealant of some sort which I was afraid of braking. What is this compartment for?

My second question is regarding the fresh water holding tank. I was hoping to replace it with a new one since I don't know what been in it during its lifetime. I'm I just paranoid or should I flush it and assume it will be safe to drink from. Is there an easy way to replace it if needed? Thanks!

1. I don't know what's in there, some might. But, since you're there, why not just pry it up? You can always put it back.

2. Here's how to recommission your entire water system. It's called a water tank, NOT a holding tank. A holding tank is for waste from a head if you have a marine head.

The most forward compartment is at the very pointof the bow. Normally there is NO limber hole at the botton, so that if the bow is stove in by hitting something, the water will be contained in that "crushed in" compartment. The Previous owner may have wanted to add to that security by sealing the cover to that compartment. That cover is probably above the water line, so it probably does not need to be sealed. Mine is not. I can, and do, lift the cover to check for ant leaking water that makes it's way into that compartment. Since it does NOT have a limber hole, that leakage water stays there. That annoys me and I take it out woth a small cup, sponge, ansd then paper towel . I don't keep anything in that compartment. So.... I suspect you can unseal the cover and check it out.

Front compartment is filled with flotation foam,as is the walled off area in the bow in the V birth.Taking out the water bladder is a pain,just clean it good cant imagine what was in there that can hurt.

The boat was designed to contain flotation so it will never sink. DJN51 is correct about that. It has been awhile but I think once I removed it to satisfy the customer what I said about floatation but it would be good to check for water if that is a concern.
