Greetings all, I am new to the forum.

I've got a haulout coming up at the end of the month and I'll be making a lot of repairs, improvements, and additions. One of the additions is a marine air unit. The problem that I'm having is choosing the best place to install a through hull for the seacock and strainer. I've already installed the a.c. unit under the dinette, aft seat.

Are there any other 83 - 87 Hunter 31 owners who have a cooling water system installed that could advise me where to install it? Any suggestions?

Best regards,

Cooling Water for AC

D.W.,
I also have a Hunter 31 83' and it had a King Air installed under the forward dinette seat. The raw water came in from a sea cock located in the bilge, made a 90 degree turn and had a strainer on it. The cooling water was then discharged out the starboard side of the boat directly below the head sink drain. Now you may want to do a bit of a different set up since your unit is located in the aft seat. Hope this helps.

Ac Thru Hull

Here is how I did it on my similar 34.. I DON’T recommend putting the raw water pump in the engine box as I did.. Under the sink or in the settee compartment would be better. After an hour or so of motoring, the engine heats the box enough to trip the high temp switch in the electric pump motor. The motor has a water cooling loop in it so by putting ice on the waterproof motor winding, I can get it started and then the raw water flow will keep the pump motor cool enough to not trip again.. But It can’t be good for the windings!.. In the picture, you can see the through hull installed opposite the engine raw water intake. The thru-hull valve is the blue dot thing on the port side of the shaft exit.. right side of the picture. My AC unit is in the aft settee with the hot water tank. The water to the Ac hose is run with the hot water hoses through the holes in the reinforcing pan.

Chris and Claude, thanks much for the ideas. I did get her down to Pier 77 in Galveston on the 29th. After I install the system I'll write back and send photos.
