I am in the process of buying an AC unit for the boat. It's between a 12K or a 16K btu. Anyone have experience with either? One of my concerns is that the 12K may be too small? Will be installing a 3.7KW diese genset next and would prefer the 12k due to it's lower amp draw. George B361 Ft Lauderdale, FL

a/c for Florida

I would go for the 16K unit for Florida. I had a 41 when I lived in Florida with 2 16’s and did not think that it was over kill. Michael Elliott B-373 Boston

Go bigger

I have a B361 in Chattanooga, TN with a 16K heat pump (shore power only, no generator). It works beautifully, even in the 98 degree heat with 100 percent humidity of August. I would think your summers are like ours. I'm not sure 12K would cut it. Another thought, I have installed an extra "shower sump" to collect the condensation and pump it overboard. You will need that, too, in the moist heat of Florida. Good luck, Agaliha

AC B361

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked up the differences in the AC units and the 16K weighs 6 lbs more and uses approx. 11 running amps vs 8 for the 12K. And only costs $100 more. I guess bigger is a no brainer. Thanks George
