Hello All,
Looking for suggestions on where to install an A/C Unit in an Oday 34. My initial thought is to build a shelf in the the wet locker (Starboard side) across from the head. Splicing into the head thru hull for the water intake and installing an new thruhull to discharge out the starboard side. Curious to see where other 34 or 35 owners have installed theirs. (This is a 16000 BTU unit.)

Thanks,

Kenny C.

I put one under the starboard settee, mounted the pump on the old shower sump pump pad and used the shower sump drain for the overboard. I connected the intake initially to the head intake, but will move it to the galley drain to allow me easier winterizing options and the ability to keep the A/C running when away from the boat for a short time. When I do reconnect the shower sump, I will drill a new overboard for it. Right now it drains to the bilge since we use it only occasionally, and it forces me to clean out the bilge after longer trips. I out in a separate circuit breaker for it off the AC main, and mounted the thermostat on the starboard bulkhead through the wet locker. It is ducted to a 6inch output in the main cabin and a 4inch vent that tees both into the main cabin and the forpeak. Works great for heating and cooling regimes, and to keep the boat dehumidified in the Virginia summers.

I suggest you check out Flagship Marine. They have complete instructions and "Dos and Don'ts". I installed their 9000 BTU unit in the starboard cabinet above the head on my O'Day 272. They can supply Non-Reverse heating in their units. The heating coil is located in the exhaust pluminum of the blower. I sure have enjoyed Heat on these cold chicago mornings. Maybe You will also enjoy heat on those cool mornings and evenings in Arkansas.

Thanks for the responses Dan & Bria. I am for sure looking forward to some cool air this summer and some heat this winter.

Dan, i like the idea of mounting it in the Starboard settee although i don't have an existing sump pad and am not too crazy about losing the storage. Will have to give that some more thought.

Bria, Thanks for the tip on Flagship Marine. Good information there.

Y'all have a great weekend and if your area is anything like mine the Nautical Idiots will be out in full force. Be safe and keep an eye open.
