Has anyone installed a A/C unit in a 1987 Hunter 37? Im interested in what locations anyone has placed a unit. Having trouble with where I want to put the A/C unit. I have not bought anything. Just trying to get ideas. Any input would be appreciated.

In aft berthing

I put a Mermaid 9000 btu unit in the aft cabin. Placed on top of the stbd locker. Water discharge is over the side well above the water line to avoid getting water back inside when heeled. I bought the venturi condensation suction device and drained the condensation pan into the locker into a sealed 1 pt water bottle. The water pump and strainer is in the head bilge under the grate and the supply comes from the old 3/4" toilet thru hull valve. I switched the toilet to draw from a tee in the sink thru hull. The air discharges into the aft cabin. At night I close the cabin door and only cool the sleeping cabin. During the day there is a piece of aluminum flex duct that directs the air out the cabin door into the saloon. Used this system for 2 years and am happy with the performance. Granted the summers here aren't south FL hot so 9K btu may be a little small for your area. I use the reverse cycle function to heat the boat in the winter until the water temp hits about 36F. Then the water doesn't have enough heat left in it for the unit to harvest. Contact me if you want pics.

My ac unit

is located in the saloon under the port side seatee, 16000 btu, so they tell me, production marine ac unit, reverse cycle, duct pipes behind the seatee and galley direct air to all cabins, you loose some stowage space, but keeps you cool in the tropics

Have two units under the port salon seat

I have a 1996 37.5 and have two units, one 10,000 and the other 16,000 BTUs, both are located under the port salon seat in front of the galley counter. 16,000 unit cools the salon and V-berth and the 10,000 cools the aft berth and galley. Works great and keeps the boat nice and cool in the Texas heat. Tom S/V At Last
