Can you run the A/C on a mooring if you have a Gen Set? I am looking at a new boat -I belive it has a Panda Gen Set, it was quote as 7 KW, although that seems like a lot for the size of the unit. Even so, can you run refridgeration and/or A/C when away from shore power with this arrangement? Ed

Gen Set/AC

My 450 has 8 kw gen set and is designed to run all electric loads including AC/heat refrigeration etc. I have 2 Vector ac units (aft cabin and forward) Plenty of amps left. Len Fagan "Tale Winds"

Most likely

Most likely you will have no problem, but it depends on how large and how many A/C units you try to run. My Hunter has a 9kw and I can run the refrigeration (120v AC), both air conditioners, charge batteries, heat water, and run lights, TV, etc. We just spent six months on the hook and never ran short of AC power using the generator. Need to watch those hair dryers, though. But you don't need to have those on the boat, anyway, when cruising.

A/C & Genset

Ed, I have the mini 8 (7KW) Panda on my 410. handles everything fine. Panda says to run it at about 70% of rated which is about where its at with both A/C's, battery charger, hot water heater and even my wife's hairdryer. Its a great, quiet reliable unit. Bryce S/V Spellbinder H410
