9hp Renault engine start up

This will be my first sailing season and first sail boat so I am looking for tips on the start up process for the 9hp Renault. Frankly I have not started the engine "ever" so was wondering if anyone had a check list or step by step so I do it right etc.Also want to ask about leaving the sea cock open when not running the engine do you close them? leave it open? Sorry this is dump question but this is all new to me.

Renault 8HP RC8D

I assume your talking about the 8HP engine. I start mine on a weekly basis whether I go out or not. When it's cold out (less than fifty degrees ) I find that just keeping a 100 watt bulb on in the engine compartment helps alot. If my engine is warm it will start within a few seconds of pushing the switch. Also, I do pump the throttle a couple times then leave it about one third open. This works for me but I'm new to these diesel engines. Parts for the thing are almost non-existent. I almost had a complete spare engine but somehow the deal fell through. As far as the seacock, I leave mine open for fear of forgetting. So far my boat hasn't sank from a leak. Seacocks are scary open or closed. I've had my H27 for less than a year but have learned a lot including hatch replacement. I have an engine parts book and owners manual if your interested.I can make copies and send them to you. Renault Owner

I have had that boat/engine for 2 seasons now, and have had no problems starting it. I obtained a couple of fuel filters, impellers, andd gaskets from a company in the UK, as spares. Mine has a secondary fuel filter and water separator. I have the engine serviced at the start of each season, and it has run well.
