9hp outboard in intracoastal?

-Hunter and Oday -27 new orleans and brooklyn
Will a 9.9 hp outboard be sufficient to safely power a Hunter 27 through currents in Gulf Intracoastal Waterway between Galveston, TX and Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans? thank you.

With no regard for planning to sail with the tides? NO!! With prudent planning and a modest amount of consideration for the current conditions, YES!

It would be just adaquate...

A 15hp, long shaft would be better.
