I'm considering both yachts and find the interiors of both very nice and roomy. I just wonder which is truly the better performer all around. I'll want to take her out the mouth of the Columbia and sail the west coast up into the gulf islands and south to Mexico. Which boat would be more sea worthy, comfortable, stable, and strongest?

both are great boats

My friend and dock mate has a C400 with whom we often buddy boat to various places as well as sail on each other's boat so the comparisons are pretty easy for us to make. He likes his better and I feel the same about mine for the following reasons: C400 bigger cockpit two wheels heavier boat by 4000 lbs bigger V berth separate shower stall in aft head H40.5 faster (not even close) separate refrigerator and freezer larger aft head (I find his stall shower really small) rotating salon table (easier to move, raise or lower) more storage easier controlled traveller Having buddy boated together in poor weather and 8 ft seas off Block Island last year, I think we would agree both boats can take a pounding pretty well and neither outshines the other. Having drilled numerous hull and bulkhead holes in both, they are equally well glassed and built to the same price point so I don't think you'd find any sig. construction differences. We both have some things we dislike about our boats as do our wives but neither of us plans to switch (boats that is) anytime soon. In our case, it came down to interior aesthetics that made us go with the H.

I have a neighbor

with a C400 a few down the line from my boat. He spent the season in Baja loving the boat in every way until the long hard slog back up the west coast. The Cat did not appreciate the pounding and displayed numerous stress cracks at many structural load points,.. Notice the substantial differences on the rigging alone between equal size H's and Cat's and you'll see that although both are classified as coastal cruisers, the H is more able to spread it's wings and travel... Just my opinion...
