37.5 rig tuning nailed!
Dan, the master rigger Brion Toss from Port Townsend Wash. has a video available called "Tuning your rig". In it he shows video of, and walks you thru a tuning of the 37.5! Order it on the web at: briontoss.com or phone:1-800-232-8902. Brion is great! The video is truly an excellent teaching tool. Brion came to Portland, Oregon and tuned our 40.5 himself. It now points 5-10 degrees higher, while allowing us to reef much later, as the boat now stands up much straighter in a stiff breeze! One tip: When sailing in YOUR most average wind to weather, tighten the shrouds on the leeward side just to where you can't turn the turnbuckle any more by hand. Tack. Do the same on the other side. There should be no slack at all in the leeward shrouds when sailing to weather. BUT, there should be no extra tension added to them either, meaning that you truly just draw up the shrouds to where there is no slack. Brion has many books and videos. You can't go wrong if you follow his advice. It is truly great to find a true expert in our world of posers, isn't it? Ron Hughes s/v Best Revenge.
