I have a 2001 9.9 4 stroke Nissan Outboard Two questions: 1. It is difficult to start, in fact requires me to lift the fast itle lever to start the motor. The it runs rough and wants to kill when going slow or in neutral? Any ideas of what the problem and solution to this problem? Being a new motor, I would think you should just turn the key and it should run smooth. 2. Does anyone know if this motor has any capability of charging the batteries when running? If yes, how would I check that function? Thanks

take it back to the dealer

tell him to fix it . and dont leave without seeing it run in the tank for a half hour or so. and take your gas tank too in case it is something there just in case. you are right a new motor should purr right along. i had a new nissan and the recoil starter flew apart the first time out on the water, (third time i started the engine) i didnt buy brand new to sail into the slip!! good luck .

Tell the dealer to make a service call.

The dealer should come to the boat and set up the motor, then instruct you in its operation and maintenance. The dealer will be able to answer your qwestions about electrical options available for your particular model motor. Take a firm, but courteous, stance with the dealer and insist that he put things right. Good Luck.
