I'm repowering my 1977 9.2A next month with a BetaMarine 902 (25hp). While the boat is on the hard for the install, I'd like to add a PSS dripless shaft seal. Since the boat is currently in the water, I can't pop the hose off the stern tube to check the diameter for ordering. Does anyone know what the stern tube diameter is? Thanks in advance.

The stern tube is 1 3/4".
I installed a Yanmar 3GMD in my sailboat several years ago and also installed the PSS, there was enough room. Don't know if the Beta is any longer than the Yanmar. I had to modify the engine cover by lengthening it about 5 1/2" because the the Yanmar stuck out further in front. I am very happy with the increased horsepower, 20 hp vs. 10hp in the old, sick, tired YSE12.

Re: S2 9.2A Stern Tube

Thanks Woody and Bob. BTW, when you repowered, did you add any soundproofing barriers in the back? I've got the engine cover well insulated but am thinking of trying to build at least some sort of partial box to cover the back of the engine. I'm sure just getting rid of the old YSB12 will help the noise situation quite a bit all by itself...

Scott......i think that the new engine is going to be very quite comparied to your old one for sure...i personally am putting sound protection on the gally sink bulkhead and maybe some on the bottom side of the cockpit sole....maybe some armorflex with contact cement......
