9.2A Outhaul question

I have a question for fellow 9.2(A) owners regarding their outhaul configuration. During my effort to replace all of the lines in the boom, I discovered an internal outhaul with 5-1 or 6-1 purchase (just can't remember w/o having it in front of me) that uses 1/4" line between the blocks and a wire from the aft block that runs through a sheave on the end of the boom up to the mast.

Looking at my copy of the 9.2 manual, it simply lists an 8' line w 3/8" diameter for the outhaul.

Is my setup a standard configuration or was it added later? I'm curious to know how other 9.2's are set up and whether I should just refresh the lines and keep this set up as-is.

Thanks!

Woodster, is the loose footed main something you switched to? My main uses a bolt rope. I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see that there is a lot of variation among 30+ year old boats, but that is definitely a much different set up than I have.

in the s2 manual it says they are loose footed but my sail has a bolt rope on the foot( and it is an s2 sail ) that will fit in the track on the original boom and i am not sure weather to put it in the grove or not there is so much to learn on these boat and being as green as i am it is hard to find some one close by to point me in the right direction

Generally speaking, a loose foot sail will have an additional slug near the clew that slips into the boom's slot. If your sail has this extra slug, you can stay with the loose foot configuration. If there is no slug, the only thing holding the clew will be the out haul car...

In addition, an attached foot sail will curve outwards vertically from the bottom to compensate for the fact that the foot cannot expand with the rest of the sail. A loose foot sail will not have this additional curvature, because the entire sail is able to curve out... and.... neither will a shelf foot sail, because the "shelf" is sewn into the foot to fill the space between the boom and the foot of the sail when the outhaul is eased.

Thank you joe I do have the slug so I will leave the bolt rope out of the track
