my 1984 9.1 has a fuel tank leak (all the fuel drained out into my bilge over the winter.) My question is twofold. 1. to remove the tank, I'll assume that I need to remove the holding tank but do I need to remove any parts of the setee?? 2. has anyone removed their tank and how easy/difficult is it?

I cleaned up all the diesel and removed to setee top but my holding tank is squeezed right next to the fuel tank and after attempting to lift the empty fuel tank out it doesn;t want to budge....

so, after removal of the fuel tank ( a BIG PITA) I sent it to a local welding and manufacturing co to take a look. Seems as if where the tank had fiberglass epoxied onto the base of the tank to prevent chafing, allowed a little water inbetween the aluminum and the glass, causing a little corrosion in part of the weld....had them cut out the bottom of the tank and weld in a new piece of aluminum.....instead of fiberglass as an anti chafe base, I used some 1/8 in. rubber mat with holes drilled every few inches to allow water to escape........tank goes back in Sunday (after a boat delivery job I have)
