This article is from a 10/89 Cruising World. The seventh Marion to Bermuda Race was a downhill slide, won in an exhilerating three day, 23-hr, 11-min, 25-sec swoop by a class-F yacht, the O'Day 34 Yukon Jack, owned and skippered by John Elliot. Warren Brown of Hamilton,Bermuda, set a new record for the no-spinnaker race by bringing his S&S design,War Baby, across the line in 3:06:34:03. But War Baby wasn't fast enough to save her time allowance and the overall prize went to Yukon Jack's corrected time:3:01:19:55. A fleet of 163 yachts, divided into seven classes started the race.

Was a Big Handicap for The OD34

There is an article on "War Baby" in this months Cruising World. Thats quite a sled. The OD34 got almost a day knocked off her time. The 2 boats are not in the same league. It was a great actual time for the OD34. Curious how tweaked the 34 was? Still, speaks well for the boat. Don

O34

Thanks for heads up On "WB" article. The O34 in that race was was a 83 stock boat except for: larger winches, backsty adjuster, cockpit adj genoa cars, feather ing prop, good set of sails. Back then boats in the MTBRace were limited to sextant only to navigate by, now you can use gps with a time penalty."Yukons" navigator won the navigators trophy in that race.
