89-94 H27 Lower Shroud Attachment

New boat for me and I'm about to step the mast for the first time. Today I noticed that one of the lower shroud attachments was missing. The lower shroud on the other side simply has a pin about 2in long which goes through the attachment point and into the mast, but there appears to be no way of securing the pin. It would be impossible to put a split ring into the end because it's inside the mast.

I have attached a photo with the shroud in the correct location, lined up with the hole, but the pin removed. There is a second hole which I don't believe is used on H27.

This doesn't seem like OEM setup. Can anyone enlighten me on how the lower shrouds are supposed to attach?

Thanks to the owner's manual which was so graciously emailed to me, I have been able to determine that this is the way Hunter intended. The pin is prevented from falling out when the spreader is in place. Only when the spreader is removed do I have to worry about losing the pin (which I did). Mystery solved.
