I'm trying to pull this topic out of Smitty's post about leaking dorade boxes. I've been wondering how many 28-2's Lear/Siegler/Starcraft/Pearson produced (in Fall River, Massachusetts) from '85-'89, when Cal and O'Day went bankrupt and were bought by Pearson at auction (September '89).I've got a 1987, hull #91 (CABD0091I687), the highest hull number that carries Coast Guard documentation (something the manufacturer/seller was probably doing for buyers and then stopped at the end of that model year.)Gary S. from Tennessee has hull #130, the number I guessed would be how many were made.Larry from Maryland has hull #134, CABL0134K788 (so you can see how the numbers work: CABxHULLxxYR).So the question is, how many of us are there? This topic would be a good place for people to post their hull numbers (and pictures, anecdotes, etc.)--it would be as interesting to know who has the low numbers (anybody still sailing #1-#10?) as well as who has the highest, and whether anyone knows about destroyed hulls. If you're nervous about posting the whole number (I can't think how someone might misuse use that, but the nuts are out there) just give us the hull number and year. And I really don't know for certain whether the manufacturer's number interfiles Cal 33-2's with the 28-2's, so if you have a 33-2 pipe right in. My current guess is 145 28-2's made, perhaps 10 destroyed, and maybe 25 33-2's made with maybe 1 destroyed. Here's a chance to build a registry for our "California's" made in Massachusetts...
