'84 H31 Water and Exhaust Hose Lenghts

Dear Captains,

I need to replace the Water Heater and Exhaust hoses on my '84 H31. Can someone confirm lenghts of the two 5/8" water heater hoses and the 2" exhaust hose from engine to water heater and exhaust port?

Alex:

I would highly suggest that you remove your old hoses and purchase hoses of equal length or slightly longer. These boats are not like autos. It depends on the workers who drilled the holes and strung the hoses.

Some of the hoses like the exhaust may not be as flexible as the existing materials so a little extra may be a good idea. Remember to purchase quality products, you will not want to do this again.

You're absolutely correct and I will do that! No two boats are built the same. I just wanted to confirm my preliminary measurements for purchase planning before I take the hoses out, about 10' for water and 16' for exhaust hoses.

The other question I forgot to ask is.. any special tricks/tips for taking them out and intalling them in, besides the usual like coating them with dishwater liquid for easy "slippage"? Any issues any of the other owners ran into intallating new hoses?

I just did mine

Last summer I did the water heater hoses. I bought 12 feet if hose and a coupler. I disconnected the hose from the water heater put the coupling on it and then cut length of new hose and pulled it through. When I got it to the engine I put it on the pump them went back and cut it to length and attached it to the water heater. Then did the same with the other hose. I had about 1.5 to 2 feet left over but to can always cut it shorter but the hose stretcher is hard to find so it was worth it to spend a little extra on the hose and know I had enough.
