I ve been looking at an '83, Hunter 30 for sale. The boat looks pretty good but are there any common trouble spots I should look for with this model?

Owner Reviews?

Did you read the "Owner Reviews" in the Boat Directory section for the H30? Then there is the Forum Archives where you can find everything ever written here about the H30. The H30 is a smaller version of my H37C, both Cherubini designed Hunters. Most common problem was/is moisture in the deck coring, especially around the portlights. All depends upon previous owner(s). And the survey should find most things.

Hunter 30's

Hi Dennis. I bought my H30 new in 1979...I still own her (Intuition). In the past 25 years she has taken me all around Florida and to the islands. During that time the major problems that I've had are as follows: 1. The Beckson port lights crazed and the dog fittings broke and have been replaced. 2. The Yanmar engine had to be overhauled after 18 years. 3. The hot water heater disintergrated after 10 years and was replaced with a SS model. This required cutting fiberglass off the cockpit locker floor (on the edge)to accomidate the replacement which had to be moved through the engine compartment. 4. The gate valves failed after 10 years and were replaced with bronze seacocks. This should have been done from the start, but I couldn't afford them when she was new. 5. The cabin top failed at the mast step after 15 years and had to be cut open, re-cored, re-glassed and re-gelcoated. 6. The main hatch slide rails wore out after 18 years and had to be rebuilt. All things considered, I could not have wished for better, for a more seaworthy craft that took me through two hurricanes, lots of squalls, one divorce, helped me meet hundreds of new friends and has ALWAYS brought me home. Let me know if you have any other questions. Regards, George ggrizzard@att.net
