I am not sure if my previous article was accepted, so I'll try again. Is the small (12" square 3" deep) covered opening, under the cabin steps designed to be a location to mount bilge pump? Do you recommend automatic or manual electric or manual or both? Do you have any bottom paint recommendations? I am also looking for a mainsail for this boat. Thanks.

Maybe...

Tom, I don't have any experience with 22's but what you describe is about where my electrical panel is on my 88' 23. If that's the case, the 22 may have had it's electrical system removed. Hunter electricals were kind-of shabby in the 80's so an owner ripping it out isn't beyond reason. I know I've often wished I could. If it is the electrical box then you've got some more work ahead of you.

bilge pump

I was early model owner of a hunter 22, hull #7. If you have upgraded the battery to a two battery system then maybe use an electric pump. but in this size boat manual would be my preference. Mine was a very dry boat. Check and fix leaks. Good luck!
