81 US Yacht

Greetings! We have a friend who just got his first sailboat and we are trying to help him out with the repairs. Being Hunter owners, we are a bit in the dark on this craft. He has a 25 ft US Yacht manufactured in Valdosta Georgia.

I googled this and found little to none on the boat.

His windows are fixed and are cobbled together with plexi and lots of caulk... its leaking bad. (The larger windows)

I was hoping to dial it back to original, but can't find any groups, sources or info.

If anyone knows of something, could you give me some info...we appreciate all the help we can get. Thanks to all!

I have some bad news for you. I live between Valdosta and Quitman Georgia and the boat manufacturer of that boat is Bayliner. There used to be a Bayliner factory in Valdosta. They took a stab at the sailing market. The boat construction was not very good. They had nobody at the plant that had experience building or designing sailboats. They pretty much used the same sub-par techniques used to build their powerboats on the cheap. They sold them as US Yachts to hide the Bayliner name. It has wooden stingers that were left..... exposed to air...... and possibly water as the boat is used.

If the ports are in poor shape then it might be best to replace them. If they can be used again then the basic repair method is the same. Remove the ports, clean up the damaged area and inspect for interior damage between the outer cabin skin and the inside cabin liner. Repair any damage and reinstall the new/or salvaged ports with good marine sealant.
There are suppliers that have ports of the same size or very close. Try Defender, West Marine or this site.

They are OK boats, but I started with a Catalina 22 and now have a 310. Recess is sort of correct on the lineage. Here is what I know. United Sailing Yachts make boats from 1979 to 1981, and after that they closed down and Bayline bought the molds and for a few years made the Bayliner Buccaneer. I think they made the last on 2-3 years after that.

Mine was a fun boat, but when stuff breaks the manufacturer is long gone. The good news is most parts are standard and you can find something close to replace broken stuff just about anywhere. Soft side decks are typical, but my fiberglass hull was solid. After enduring hurricane Isabel there were a few chips in the gelcoat on the bow, but you should have seen the dock.

If it was manufactured in Valdosta, it is a Bayliner from the plant they had here. It is post buy out of the molds. Bayliner sold boats under the name US Yachts also.
