Hi Friends.
I need to replace the spreader ends on my 1981 h27, so I need to know what brand spreader to search for. I thought they might be Kenyon, but the measured dimensions don't match anything available at Rig-Rite.

A search of this forum and another well-know forum generated no matches.
Thanks for any help.

Joe

Is Hunter Yachts still supporting their boats... or have they gone down with the latest organizational changes? If they have it is highly likely that someone has acquired their parts inventory and that be a good place to start. I know it's not much help but it could be another direction to explore.

Three thoughts here. Maybe one of them is helpful:
1) I know my '82 H30 has a Kenyon mast and spreaders, so your assumption that you have Kenyon spreaders sounds reasonable to me. OK, that's probably not much help.
2) Hunter Marine is now Marlow-Hunter and Marlow has a pretty good reputation, so it might be worth a try contacting them. Though my personal impression, from experience trying to get info about construction of the skeg on my boat from Hunter Marine eight or nine years ago (Well before Marlow took over.), was that much of the instutional/historical knowledge of the Cherubini Hunters had be lost within that organization. However, John Cherubini Jr frequents this site and has in depth personal knowledge of these boats, so may he be your best bet for the insite you need.
3) I assume you are talking about the cast or machined spreader ends that slide into the extruded spar ends of the spreaders. I'm curious why you need to replace them. Did they go missing or were they damaged or worn somehow? Could you have new replacement ends machined to fit? I had a new shaft log machined for me a few years ago by a local shop to replace one that's no longer made and it was not as costly as I had feared it would be.

I think all the Hunter spars in the Cherubini era were from Kenyon. Looking at the H27 pictures here at SailboatOwners.com, the spars all look like Kenyon to me. Of course, its possible your rig was changed for some reason. Did you go through all the spreader data here? They seem to list cast spreader tips for all the various sections as well. I have only dealt with RigRite once. I got what I needed, but I have since heard that they can be difficult to communicate with...YMMV.

I haven't had a chance to clean them up yet. Just fishing in case they are in need of replacement.

I believe that's a Kenyon spreader - the tip looks like mine. Cleaning and painting may be all it needs.

Kinda look like the ones on my '81 H27, we put the rubber mast boots on recently and the yard guy didn't see any issues with mine.
