Thirty to forty mile an hour winds on Lake Ouachita This past Saturday, Waves were as tall as five to six feet at times. Maintained 8.2to 8.5 knots with a few times getting as much as 8.8 running my gps. Double reefed and just a about half of my jib out. Did have full crew for rail meat. Speed

That is possible if you are surfing. The hull speed of the h34 is about 7.1 knots. We had one in the charter fleet at my marina that did that all the time. It seems the owner "adjusted" the calibration screw on his knot meter. He figured people would rent his boat againg because it was so fast. How did you determine your speed, GPS? I had mine there for a short time going down wind under full sail in about 25 knots of wind single handed. When I headed off the wind I rolled up the jib.

Now you know!

We once had a 'postage stamp' of a genoa out, with no mainsail, hitting 12 knots south of Puerto Villarta, Mexico. We were running mid 8s to mid 9s off the Washington and Oregon coast. That was on GPS. The 12kt surf was too short lived to confirm on GPS. But it sure was fun. When we dropped to 9kt sustained, my wife got bored and said we should put up the spinnaker. We did. :)

Lots of weatherhelm heading upwind

When we fell off the weatherhelm went away. sailed for about two hours in those conditions. Running on a downwind reach is when we had the best speeds. I'll upload some pics and post them tommorrow. Tim Welsh H34 AKA Cabo Wabo

A little more jib unrolled may have helped.

when going to weather you had weather helm. so you could have had more jib out and less main. either flatter or less travler. does that sound right to everybody!
