I need location of head through hull valves on my 79 H27. There is a level fiiberlass molded portion in location but see no access to underneath for mounting valvees. Where is the best location for a neat pipping job? cheers frank

Not sure I understand the question

Any "thru-hull valves" (valves on thru-hulls) would be seacocks, attached to thru-hulls. Nothing would be installed under any raised platform in the head...so what other valves are you referring to?

H27 head fittings

Hi Peggy, my H27 1979 does not have a sea toilet or any plumbing for one no thru-hulls for intake and discharge. So before I start the installation I was looking for tips on the best location for these valves on this particular boat that would facilitate the neatest pipping....cheers frank

Re: How 'bout giving this idea some thought...

Great idea Peggy. My 23year old will be staying on boat this winter in New York city in well equiped marina. They provide cheap pump out and have great facilities. It will provide the same holding capacity as a plumbed out system. Since use of MSD can be minimized it provides perfect solution. BTW..you may remember I had slime and other white wierd stuff in 35 gal water tank. I cut open top of tank and installed V shaped blader tank with electic pump set up. Running water on board what a pleasure. ...thanks for good advice.....cheers frank

Sorta thought you might like it. :)

And if you went with a "standard" marine toilet and holding tank, you'd need at least a 30 gallon tank to hold as many flushes as this system.

It should be under the starboard side cagin seat. Remove the cushion, lift the finger hatch and reach forward. There are two seacocks, the bigger of the two is to the head.

The smaller valve (a little bit further reach forward) is to the hose in the anchor hatch up front.

Now I'm curious, there might be factory installed thru hull fittings for future use? I have not come across any cleaning under seats but was not looking for anything eighter I'll give it a good look

Whoa, is this set up as a drain hose for the locker? Mine has a simple hole drilled thru stem at floor level.

I doubt it

I've NEVER heard of any boat builder installing any thru-hulls--especially below-waterline thru-hulls--for "future use." For one thing, thru-hulls and seacocks are expensive...builders don't spend a dime they don't have to....and for another, the liability if one the buyer didn't know about were left open.

So Fifedog... if there are thru-hulls on your boat, they were put there for a specific use...either by the factory or a PO. 1980 was the first year that holding tanks were required...so I'm guessing that any early model year may have had an OPTIONAL toilet that flushed directly overboard....and that the cost of adding a tank along with any needed toilet repairs or replacement caused the owner to pull it out and go with a portapotty.

And btw...whether used or not--ESPECIALLY if NOT used, thru-hulls need to be inspected regularly and rebedded as necessary and seacocks kept lubed and exercised often enough to keep 'em from seizing. If you're not willing to do that, might as well take 'em out and glass the holes.

Ms Peggy - Original Mansfield head, as well as holding tank are gone. Previous owner installed a 5 gallon Thetford unit. And yes, you must have written permission from the Admiral to use it...and she wants to see signs of true renal failure before granting same.
