Has anyone switched from a one cylinder to two cylinder engine in a 1977-1980 hunter. The one cylinder is not poerful enough and vibrates. I am thinking of getting a Yanmar or other two cylinder engine. Any comments will be appreciated. Also any information on costs will help.Thanks.

2gm20

My buddy has the 2gm20 in a 1976 28 Hunter. I would say there are pros and cons. He definatly has good power for when he needs it. But you can tell it has extra weight in the rear. I think if it were me I would rather have the small lighter engine in this size boat. Kevin

2gm20

On my 1980 Hunter 27, whatever the time, or the flow of the tide, my 2gm20 has enough power to take me where I want to go, NOW, not later. Swear by you engine, not at it. Smooth sailing!

YSE 12 to 3cyclinder

I have a 76 h30 that I replaced a single cyclinder yse12 with a Vetus 22hp 3 cyclinder engine. I would have gone with a 2 cyclinder, but I got a great deal on the 3. I didn't have any documentation on the weight of the yse12, but I weighed all the parts and when all was said and done I actually lost 40 lbs in the repower. The newer engines are much lighter that the old ones. Go for the 2 cyclinder engine and take a look at other engine options. I have a freind who repowered a Morgan oi 28 with a 2 cyclinder "Sole'" engine. Their price was way below others, I think it was around $3500 delivered. It's a Mitsitishi (sp?) based engine, same as Vetus and other brands. Sole' has had ads in the back of Cruising World. Good luck, Royce
