Ready to update my house batteries, so do I replace the Dekka 4Ds with new ones, or is it better to switch to 2 Trojan 105s, in series

The Deka 4D is a dual purpose battery not a deep cycle battery..

The T105 is a deep cycle battery.

So long as you have the height to fit the T105's this is a great upgrade...

That is one of the things that makes sites such as this so valuable, the ability to get information that is elusive. I replaced my house bank with six Crown 235s to get into a true deep cycle world.

GWG I had 4D's until recently when one had a thermal runaway. I decided to follow Mainsails advice and changed to 6 105's. I have been very impressed with their performance. It far outweighed my 4D's in performance. I wish I had done it earlier! If you have the run I highly recommend it.

Don't forget the Duracell ECG2 option. They are 6 volt GC batteries made by Deka and sold at a low cost at Sam's Club. Maine Sail has done posts on them in the past. We are in our second year and I am very happy with these batteries.

Good luck and fair winds,

Jesse

T-105's

I also changed from those crazy heavy:eek:4D's back in 2011 and they are fantastic and we use them to :eek:Death:eek: when cruising for sure.
We use a lot of 12 volt Ref/Freezers while cruising and do use our microwave
electric coffee maker a lot too and what I am trying to say is I do not try to conserve 12 volt while cruising with my wife and she can use anything she wants while out cruising for 3 weeks at a time.
And those T-105's just keep going and going and the extra $$$$ they may cost
were well worth it but I think 6 volt batteries are the best $$$$ spent.
