Hi All,
Escapde's (2008 41DS) Hobbs Meter (?)(digital hour meter) relocated on the bottom of the tachometer is failing. The digits are intermittent and getting worse. The tach works fine, but not the hobbs. Very trusted mechanic says that there is nothing to be done with the current meter and a new tach will be expensive. He recommends a stand alone meter mounted on the engine panel. It would connect to any convenient dc driven meter nearby that is powered by the key switch. Seems like a straight forward, inexpensive solution. Any other thoughts?

I had my Engine Hour Meter fail in summer of 2006. It was a Faria meter installed at the Navigation Station. I replaced it with a Faria Model No. MH009E which I got from shipsstore.com as their P/N FAR12824. The original one was powered from the 12Vdc at the Ingition Switch. When the switch is on to start the engine, the Hour Meter starts running and stops when the Ignition Switch is turned off. I did note the hours on the old Hour Meter when it failed. I made up a label saying "Add 1287 Hours to Hour Meter reading to get actual engine hours" and placed it under the new meter at the Nav. Station. In my log book, I enter the new meters hours for ease of use, but on maintenance records I give the ACTUAL engine hours.

Same problem last year. Bought a non digital meter on eBay and installed it in the engine panel. Wired same as previous poster so runs when ignition is on.

I hooked it up to a 12 volt power supply on the bench before installation and let it run until it read about the same as the original.

There is a fix for the faulty one if you are handy. I diidn't bother but have a copy on my work computer. If you want to try it, send me a PM and I'll send it to you next week.

This is a very common problem- join the club!

Excellent Rich! This is perfect. Even if I screw it up, I can just fall back on the original plan to install the Hobbs Meter!

we also ran into same problem on our 41DS App 800 hrs on meter. replace it with digital meter and also replaced the cheap flimsy black plastic pannel with 1/4 " teak. analog meter is easier to read in sunlight .
