The mast on my year 2000 Beneteau 411 filled with water at the base, froze and cracked this past winter. There was not adequate water drainage at the base of the mast leading to the accumulation of water. Has anyone else had this problem?

A friends 1998 411 suffered the same problem two years ago. They were able to remove the mast from the boat and clamp the gap closed and weld the aluminum and polish it to complete the repair . My 2000 model year 411 also had no drain holes in the mast base, I drilled two holes in the aft section of the mast in the base.My daughter just purchased a 1999 411 and it too was filled with water. You would think that consideing the number of boats they produce, the mast would have drain holes installed by the mast manufacturer or at the least by Beneteau. Merrill s/v Ambition B411 #155
