re col. 41 purchase

I purchased a 1973 , col. 41 motor sailor, 4 years ago. Have had some problems, but expected some with an older boat. Am satisfied with the boat, performance etc. Great interior space in it. A heave boat, but moves great if wind is l0 and up. Sent this reply to your e-mail. DId not hear from you, so am repeat responding thru this columbia owners forum. Herb Miller

Re: Columbia 41 purchase questions

My wife and I purchased the former "Carnival" two years ago and have been working on her whenever we can since that day. She was in very rough shape but is coming along quite nicely. Lots of work but she will be a great boat when finished. We named her "Last One" and fully expect that this will be the retirement boat for us. We highly recomend this model based on what we have seen so far. Dave and Mimi

re: 41 purchase

Herb, What problems did you have with the vessel? Anybody, What is the minimum wind speed required to get this vessel up to 3knots or so? I have heard the hulls of some columbias are fairly light construction, thoughts? Anybody sailed one of these a fair distance along exposed coast?

I dont have much experience with our newly purchased 1973 Columbia 41. We did enjoy a 50+ mile passage to bring the boat home.We had 20-30+K of breeze and decnt size seas. The boat handled just like a dream. Of course we wouldnt choose this weather to sail in but, When you gotta go...You gotta go_Our weather gets pretty nasty this time of year. From what I have gotten into so far. The boat is exeptional in construction.Has a great heavy feel and motion. And seems to be easy to work on. Let me know if I can be of assistance. Dave
