40ast electric conversion 2nd question speed rings

I have been considering two upgrades to the 40 ast secondaries on the cabin top of the 36.7.Can you tell me if it is feasible to:1. convert 40 ast to electric without buying whole new winch and what kit is recommended?2. Can I get the speed ring drums as a straight repacement of standard 40 ast drum?3. Can I do both?Jay Hood

Winch upgrade

You can can upgrade to electric by buying the conversion kit. It will probably run about $1400-1500 each according to what I found on the web. I have not been able to find anything about the spped rings so, unfortunately, I can't help you there. Try calling Lewmar and see if they can help you.good luckCharlie

If the winches are newer than 2000, they have a removable plate in the base that allows the Drive shaft from the electric conversion kit (part# 48040300, List Price $2095.00) to be installed.The 40AST speedring drum will fit right over the shaft of the 40ST.PArt# 40002733 40AST GY SPEED RING DRUM KIT List $570.00. Do me a favor and double check the part numbers before ordering at the office (800) 362-7212. I'm on the road and don't have the most current parts lists.
