A little off the regular topic, but this one has to be shared. 1. 40 people on a Gulf Star 38. 2. 1 a.m., after a party at which many of the guests became intoxicated. 3. 19 year old skipper, it was his dad's boat. 4. 2 miles offshore in Lake Ponchartrain 5. Everyone rushed to one side of the boat, it turned on its side, dumped everyone out, then righted itself. 6. There were only 15 life vests on the boat. 7. Most amazing fact of all, thanks to sheriff's dept., police dept., and coast guard, NO ONE DROWNED! AMAZING!. link to story below

thats something....don't know what a 38 foot gulfstar is but 40 people is still only 6400 lbs....(I guess it is a lot of weight, if it was up high and on one side)

The coast guard is going to charge the 19 year old captain with something, not yet determined, or so the newspaper says. The group was made up mostly of young ladies and dates that had attended a debutante affair, many of them had on high heels and gowns - high heels on a boat - the captain should be charged for that!

Makes good TV watching
Thank God for incidents like that. In real life there will always be those who for lack of I.Q. or good judgment, do STUPID things. It is all GOD'S Grand Plan called evolution of the species or survival of the fittest (those with more I.Q. or better judgment). Just think, if those types were not eliminated through a "selection process" the whole world would still be populated by monkeys. Besides that, it makes for better evening TV viewing. Keep up the good work, folks.

But this case I think its more because age
and lack of experience. Was there anyone over 21 even on the boat? I'm not sure this is necessarily a "darwin award". More likely a young kids doing what they do....not smart, but when your young "fun" takes over some time.

God has always held a special watch over them. Something about glass houses pops into mind as well. Guys at that age do not do all of their best thinking with the head under their hat. Myself included when I was 19 I may have been one of them in the water.

Do not fault the boat. Properly distributed, the weight of 40 people would not cause this boat to roll over. Fault the passengers and, of course, the guy in charge. Not to minimize his overall responsibility for the use of his boat, do you think the owner knew what his kid was doing with it? It's like when your son takes the family car to a party and then acts like your son at a party. I wonder how dad's boat insurance carrier is reacting to all this -- and whether dad gave his kid a kick in the ass.
