Well

In the christmas list my boat seems to have given to me early I need to replace some of my stanchions

Does anyone know the supplier of these? If they are even still made!

Worse case I get a welder to weld the 2 screw anchor point on new stanchions (hopefully 40.5 owners will understand what I am saying here)

Would be nice if I could just buy them though!

Thanks in advance

I would contact Dave or Phil at SBO and check with them. If they do not have them, you may want to contact Garhauer Marine. They can probably duplicate the units. They also sell them with and without bases. This allow you to have removable stanchions without removing the base.

Thanks for the response Steve!

Can I ask for what reason would you remove them? My last ones were through bolted from under the rub rail and then had 2 legs welded just off the base that were then screwed to the deck

Thanks Phil

With my schedule between the US and Iraq I don't think thats going to work for me as its something I have to get done pretty sharpish (when I'm away people use the boat)

I will keep looking for them in the meantime

Will keep it in mind though as you never know!

Phil,

I'd like to know when this shipment comes in. I own a 1988 Hunter Legend '45 with these same archaic and hard to find stanchion's on it.

And,...I'm willing to wait until mid-April to get ahold of a couple of them. Can you give me some idea of How much $$ you want per stanchion?

Regards,

James

Here's the scoop:

http://shop.hunterowners.com/hp/part.php?m=40.5&c=8&p=53870

They're $57.95 which I think is a really good price given the nature of that bail. Let me know if this looks like the bottom of your stanchion and I'll assign it to the 45. Thanks!

Phil,

YES, those are the ones.

And you are right. That's not too bad of a price either.

My experience with using the NEW ones, to replace the old ones, is exactly what you describe on the webpage. You'll have to do 'a little customizing' to get them to fit AND,...line up with the other existing stanchions.

I use an anvil and a 3lbs hammer to do most of my customizing work.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the tops? The website says that they replaced the old black caps with stainless steel and I'm curious to see what they look like.

Thanks again and I'll probably be getting at least two after clearing the purchase with the Admiral.

Regards,

James

Hi James,

Unfortunately, I had photos of the top but I lost them when I switched phones. I'll try to get another. Meanwhile, I can tell you that they are exactly the same shape but stainless instead of plastic. I suppose you could paint the top black to get a match but the stainless looks pretty cool.
