The rudder shaft is picking up a little play, at least more than i recall from the haulout when we surveyed her a year ago.
Do you 40.5 owners have the same "spacer" at the bottom of the shaft?
I can't tell if it is a spacer to keep the rudder from impacting the hull in a grounding or if it simply floats up when in the water, or is it a fractured rudder bearing?
We have noticed no problem with the rudder sailing, but will have to check into this more ina couple of years as Paul Cossman did with his Passage 42:
