40.5 mast step leak

i have a leak into the cabin of my 40.5 through the wiring in the mast step...i've put caulking around the wiring inside cabin ceiling, but this is dealing with the problem after the water enters....the boat reviews indicate this is a common problem with the 40.5...has anyone solved it? any info will be appreciated....bob

solved my leak

My 1996 leaked through mast step. The wires were properly sealed. I found that the leaks were through the bolts holding the mast step in place. I took each one out ( one at a time) and sealed with 5200 and replaced. Since then I have no leaks. If you need to contact me my email is mrbclark@msn.com

Same problem on my 34 -- tried everything and finally found the problem when the mast was unstepped. Leaking through the bolts holding the step bracket on.

I HAVE SAME LEAK IN 1994 LEGOND 40.5 THRU LIGHT OBOVE MAIN SALON TABLE. ALSO LEAK ONSTARBOARD SIDE REAR AFT CABIN. ANY SUGGESTION APPRECIATED. BDOWCT@AOL.COM
