I recently acquired a 1994 Hunter 40.5 and have been trying to figure out the electrical charging system and wiring in the engine compartment. There’s an alternator regulator (mfg by Cruising Equipment), a black box with a red button (fuse?)marked “135”, and a battery selector switch (1,2, all, off) , all just above the front of the engine. The box with the red button is marked "Leave in '1' position."And inside the engine compartment on the port side, there’s several round instruments (?) and a rectangular box—--all of which have heavy duty red wires connected, so I expect are part of the charging system. Is this a stock setup? What are these pieces of equipment and how do they operate together? The boat has a engine cranking battery and 2 X 8D house batteries. There’s also a Cruising Equipment 2 - battery bank monitor at the nav station. Which batteries do the “1” and “2” on the battery bank monitor refer to? And when the “low battery” flashes on the battery bank monitor, how do you know which battery its referring to? There’s also the main battery selector switch in the starboard lazarette. With three batteries on board, does the “2” on the battery switch refer to both the 8D house batteries, and the “1” refer to the engine cranking battery??
