Does 5200 compare with sicaflex. I intend to replace the windows on one of our smaller yachts. The original perspex was pop riveted on wiht some ordinary silicon. I was hoping to simply glue the windows on to the surface of the hull. Any thoughts?

Sikaflex vs 3M

Mark: Sikaflex makes an array of products just like 3M does. You need to look up their products and find out which one is best for the job. 5200 is the worst possible choice there is for replacing windows. You should look at the Dow 795 or 995 for this procedure.

Steve is right on.

I just replaced all my portlights both fixed and opening and used DC 795 per strong recommendation of Beckson and last few months Practical Sailor article stating it was highly recommended by them. It is easy to work with and clean up. It is much like toothpaste. Just bought a tube this morning fir $4.65. Look for it at window supply or industrial sealant/silicone supply houses.

I use the 795 on the windows. If replacing a window, tape the area off. When cleaning use only alcohol as acetone will screw up any lexan. You can smooth out the caulk by dipping your pinky into alcohol or heck, I use spit when I do not have alcohol with me. Crazy DAVE;af;a pojf[vwer'tlvg; u['o;qpoc
