I have been using a lot of sealant recently: 3m silicone and 3m 4200. I just ordered some from Gradysonline.com for $7 to $8 and the price at West Marine is $17. I know West talks about price match, but the store I go to makes a big deal about it. Maybe others can share tips like this to make our boats more affordable. Shipping was a flat $4, or $1.40 per tube. Well worth the cost.

I found a 10oz tube of 5200 at my local Home Depot for $6.95. I don't know if it is an item that would be generally available in all HD's. West Marine is going to price themselves out of the market. The 5200 is typical of many priceings at West.
Just for information, what are you guys using 4200 and 5200 for on your boats?
After 35 years of sailing, I use two things only now: silicone for my Beckson portlights and butyl tape from Maine Sail. I can't conceive of any use for 4200 or 5200.

I use 5200 for a bunch of things including fittings on the holding tank and some other permanent thingies. Other possible uses are sealant on the lube and fuel filters, tightening the engine access panels and attaching zincs to the prop and shaft so they won't fall off.

The West Marine I go to now tells me they will no longer do online price matching as of March and their prices are sometimes twice as much as online. As for the 3m sealant, I use mostly silicone, but I have occasionally used 4200 in the past for mounting a bracket for my VHF.
