It depends!
When changing your oil, you must first try to get as much of the old oil out of the crankcase. Warm up the engine and pump it as dry as you can. If you use a metal tube and keep at it , you will get most, but not all of the old oil out. Then change the oil filter. Based upon what you got out, add approximately the same volume of new oil. Run the engine for a short time and then check the level, adding more if appropriate. Be careful not to overfill. You should always carry a little extra oil anyway, to top off during the season.
