Bob,
Checkout the troubleshooting schematic on your windlass instructions or your can
locate a copy of it on Lewmar's website.
Make sure the windlass breaker is on and functional. (located near start & house
battery switches)
Note that there is also an inline fuse for the handheld remote control. The fuse
should be located inside the windlass motor cabinet, located behind a wood panel in
the forward berth. The prongs on the hand held remote are also notorious for
corroding and failing; check them out also.
My Lewmar V2 windlass has a "stop" lever at the base of the windlass to prevent
inadvertent fall of the anchor from the roller. This lever must be disengaged for
the windlass to work. Not all models have this feature.
The winch handle can not be used to operate the windlass unless it has optional
manual overide component installed. The winch handle that is supplied is
primarily for tightening the tension on the nylon rode that is engaged by the gypsy.
You can also use the handle to disengage the gypsy to use the drum independently
from the gypsy.
Check all wiring connections for corrosion or loose connectors.
If the above does not help, you will need to trace the circuits using a multimeter
to determine if there are faulty connections/wires, contactor/solenoid, windlass
motor, hand held control, or faulty windlas breaker or hand held control inline fuse.
Be careful when troubleshooting & testing the actual windlass circuit becaue it carries
a substantial amount of amperage.
Hope this helps. David
