Problem. My centerboard wore out at the pivot pin hole. So I took it our and fixed it. In order to take it out I had to take the pin out (which was in good shape). The main problem was leaking in the bilge. Her is how the dominos fellLeak in bilge. Tear up concrete to Find leak. All looks good, very slow leak. How to find source?Remove pin holding centerboard (and remove centerboard) in as that is the most likely location of leak (read too much SHerlock Holmes).Fill bilge with clear water.Reverse hose on vacuum to blow instead of suck.Plug pivot pin hole on inside of centerboard.Blow air into outside of pivot pin hole (dut tape it in place - then climb inside boat to see bubbles)Bubbles (Oh, poop)Repeat process for port side.Bubbles (oh poop II).Grind fiberglass out of inside area where pin is.Ta-da? The meat of the question here...what is in there? I ground down to metal, (to fix it I poured epoxy with fileting compound over the cracks (one on each side ON the pivot can. One crack was on the hull side - the other on the trunk side, ditto for the port side of the trunk. Picture a small coffee can cut lengthwise. Put one half on the port side, the other on the starboard, cut side down. This is where the pin comes through.) The port side does not leak, but the starboard does. Funny, the leak stops after I have about an inch of water in the bilge (which is now a two sided bilge). The water pressure must stop the leak. What I need to do is grind ou the epoxy, and redo it, but I wonder what the cans are and what is under them, and how are they integrated into the hull?Perhaps Gene know the answer.
