37 cc hard dodger

Just an idea i've been pondering. Our enclosed cockpit canvas is worn out. Before spending the money to redo it all I think a hard dodger would be a neat addition to the boat, then less canvas to add next year! Anybody have any ideas on constructing such a project??? I've seen the "wavestopper" type of hard dodger (fiberglass roof with soft plastic windows) But prefer the hard glass/plexiglass type better. OR DO I???? Any suggestions please!?howie/freewill

Dodger for 37 cc

We are in the process of building our own dodger for our 37cc using the Sailrite dodger kit. We are about to start the sewing process. So far the whole thing went well. Another boat nearby wants to change his soft dodger to a hard dodger and thought of using his existing SS frame and marine plywood covered with fiberglass. I feel that most people that go for hard dodgers do so because of the high cost associated with having someone making their dodger. Whatever you choose I think that it is important to make the windows removable. Also, instead of using plexiglass or those soft plastic sheets that are used on most dodgers, try using thin Lexan sheets: they are stronger, clearer, and suposely will not turn white/yellow with sun exposure. Even though we are using sunbrella, there are other fabrics available that are supposed to last much longer

Thanks for the quick replies! I've seen these same ideas of the hard topped dodger with soft windows. Several companies seem to have the same idea, including the self made one that cruising world shown. I guess that what i had in mind was more of a pilothouse/hard dodger with a connecting bimini/full enclosure. I'm getting myself in for some work i know but just looking for some ideas now. Our canvas will last another year at least, plenty of time to plan and ponder, thanks for any input!howie~
