Am looking for advice on installing electric windlass on 37.5. Has anyone installed one? What brand? horizontal or vertical? Any advice would be appreciated.

37.5 Windlass

Yep. Installed the Maxwell 800. Not terribly difficult. It works just great. I didn't want all that weight in the bow so I used about 150 feet 1/4" Hi-Test chain and 1/2" extra strength line (from Defender). ChuckWolfe@mail.com

I'm leaving tonight for a couple of weeks. The windlass was installed just aft of the anchor lock on the starboard side. A hole was cut through the deck. I ran the electric wire from the breaker switch Maxwell gives you, which was installed in the port lazarette through the port side. You will have to remove the electric switches to help feed it through. The snaking of the wires (I think it was double ought, but maybe it was No.1, took three of us to do. After that, it went easy. From the V-Berth, after you have cut the hole, you can snake the wires to the hole you have cut. That's about it. Somewhere I have picture of the installation and if I find them, I'll e-mail them to you. chuckwolfe@mail.com

Manual Simpson-Lawrence Anchorman

I have the Legand 37 which is basically the same as the 37.5. I also mounted the windlass behind the anchor well and to the starboard side (to line up with the anchor roller). I went with the manual winch to avoid all of the wiring problems that I could see. I have 150 ft of 5/16" chain and a 45# CQR. The winch pulls it up very easily. I didn't install a hause pipe, I open the anchor locker when anchoring. This makes it easy to arrange the chain when weighing anchor.
