I bought a 1994 35.5 legend...The marina is going to take the mast down and get it ready for shipment. I stopped in and looked at the rigging, wires thru the mast connections and the pin connection on the furler. It's an original hood? under the deck furler. I reached in by the pin and theres no way could I get my hand around to deal with the pin..Does the drum unit slide up so you can access that area?..With the drum where it is , the pin area is pretty my obstructed from getting my fingers in there...helps appreciated...thanks...craig

Yes drum slides up the nylon Allen bolt comes out push in the dots darker aluminum spots and pull up the drum or you pull off clam shell top and unit comes up exposing turn buckle

Thanks for the quick respone...that helps very much...on another topic I am somewhat worried about water intrusion from the mast wires....I have no idea but do you think there should be a loop in the wires from above before they enter the tube?...thanks..

No telling on that age boat also marina yard sometimes cuts old connections off and reinstall. There is discussion on this forum about cutting an access plate on side of mast to check connection and seal hole

I have a 1990, when mine was take down they cut the wires. I had the mast rewired as I had taken a lighting strike. There should be a junction box for any electronics there.

On my 1994 35.5 there are four wires coming thru the tube from above...one coax, two gray and one red....I disconnected all of them from below so my hope is the pull those out and not cut them....I will be po'd if the cut them.....My plan is to put a 90degree 1.5inch elbow on top of the tube, create a loop in each wire and feed thru...

I have the same issue with the furling. Ultimately we got our fingers around the connection and now we have to put it back. I am somewhat concerned that it might be as challenging to reinstall it. Any suggestions to make this process easier. I don't quite understand the response provided by Whatfiero1 earlier in the thread

Just unscrew the nylon bolt from the top side of the furler tube and with a small flat screwdriver pop that bushing out, next, push the bushing on the opposite side out by simply applying pressure through the hole in the top of the tube until it clears the edge of the hole and lift out. since the bent stainless plate on the bottom of the drum is free the whole furler, extrusions and all should slide up the forestay about 4 to 5 inches which will expose the entire turnbuckle and allow you to connect the pin and cotter pin and then adjust the headstay for tension. Reverse the process to slide the tube and extrusions back down and reinsert the bushing and connect the stainless plate which holds the entire unit from turning on the stay.

If the mast is up and you want to adjust the turnbuckle, use this method and hold the drum up with a short piece of 2x4 wood placed under the unit and across the lower tube of the bow pulpit.
