All the talk about holding tank problems is making me nervous. I have a 92 -35.5 and I believe it is the original tank as it appears to be aluminium. I am the 3rd owner, have had it for 6 months with no sign of problems. The wall in the rear of the aft cabin does have some teak strips which indicate there is access but I am not sure if that is original manufacture or a later modification. My questions are, how can I determine if it is the original tank? did all thoses madels have tank problems? anf if so would you be pro-active and replace it?

Don't worry about it till you suspect problems

The first clue will be odor.

MY 35.5 Holding Tank

Don; I too have a 1992 35.5 with an aluminum holding tank. No problems thus far albeit I pump the tank out weekly during the season and backflush it [through the toilet] with tap water whenever I think of it. When it leaks I'll consider replacing it. However I did replace the vent hose. It really made a big difference odor wise. By the way, use KO as Peggy suggests. I buy mine by the gallon at an RV dealer for about 25% less than in boat stores. When it leaks

you will discover water in the area where the prop shaft exits the hull. If you don't have a dripless seal, then you will wait until it smells in the bilge. I recommend that you open the bulkhead and inspect the shelf that it sets on. All leaks start real slow as it is a pin hole leak in the beginning. Good luck.

1993 Legend 35.5

I have a 1993 Legend and it just developed a pin hole leak this past weekend. On Monday, I ordered a new tank from RONCO, and they are projecting to send it today, 3 days later. I have a character building project for this weekend. The Owners site is great with descriptions and pictures of what I need to do to replace it. My recommendation is measure and order your new tank now and then replace it at the end of the season.

Replace it

I had a 1990 35.5 and replaced the tank when I bought the boat. The original aluminum tank was leaking. If your tank is aluminum, it is the original and will leak. It is just a question of when. I got my new tank from West Marine. Not an expensive job, but takes a good day or two. Better to replace before leak then have a cleanup job too.

Holding Tank 35.5 - I think I may need help as well!

I also have a 90 35.5 and came to this site looking for specs on the holding tank and water tank (found 64 gallons). One of the reasons I was seeking the information was because I wasn't sure I was putting in enough ordor control product. I haven't been able to bring it under control this season even though I have a weekly pump out service. It sounds as though I have missed an important discussion on holding tanks. Can someone bring me up to date?

What are you using in the tank, Carole?

Do you have odor inside the boat, only out the tank vent, or both?

Which Ronco Tank

Allen, I've been looking at the Ronco B189(16W x 2638 L x 13H: 30 gal) as a good replacement for my 1994 35.5 holding tank. Which model did you go with and how did you position your inputsoutputs?
