I have been studying all the web sites and have read a few forums but still have some questions on the selection of a new prop for my Hunter 340. At this point I am down to picking between a 2 blade Max Prop and 2 blade Auto Prop. Questions are: 1. Which? 2. Are there any particular problems with installation of either? 3. What is the correct setting for the Max Prop? 4. Is there enough performance difference in the 2 blade and 3 blade to justify the cost difference? Any help on this issue would be appreciated. 2 Blade Auto-Prop?

Uhhh! I wasn't aware that Auto-Prop made a 2 blade feathering prop. I have only seen their three blade. In fact, I thought all feathering props were three bladed. Maybe I'm wrong because I seem to recall that Maxi-Prop has a two blade feathering prop. ChuckWolfe@mail.com

Auto prop

Hi Johnnie, Last year I had the same difficult decision to make and after going back and studying my old issues of Practical Sailor decided to go with the Autoprop. Autoprop only makes a 3 bladed prop but Maxprop and Martec have 2 bladed versions. Not having any basis of comparision I can only say we are extremely happy with our Autoprop. It has improved sailing performance and has helped motoring performance. Maxprop and Martec have flat blades and you loose some efficiency with them but the Autoprop self pitches and makes a very noticable improvement when motoring, especially into heavy seas. Our speed is much better at lower rpm's. My wife drives our boat most of the time and she especially likes the maneuvering ability when parking the boat in harbor. Hope this helps! What was the Model Number/Size for the AutoProp

I think that I will buy an AutoProp for my Hunter 340. What was the model or size that I should specify to the AutoProp sales when ordering? Thanks, Mark Mowery

Max prop all the way

We installed a 3blade maxprop on our Hunter 30 last summer and the performance difference is astounding. I would highly reccommend a 3 blade. Also the people at PYI ( the maxprop dealer ) are extremely helpful. The person helping me even gave his personal cell phone number in case I needed to ask a question while insttalling it!!

Maxprop

Installed a three bladed maxprop last year and was very satisfied with the performance. An added bonus is the thrust a three bladed prop gives in reverse. Have a fin keel and hit bottom twice (Lake Michigan water level was low last year)and was easily able to back out.
