I think it has to do with roller furling mains. If you look at the 340 pictures stored on this site, all the boats with roller furling mains lack the struts. One picture appears to have a boom roller furling setup with struts, but the sail in that photo looks like it might have originally come with mast roller furling.

Hmmmmmmmmmm good catch
Maybe the other sail can exert more force on mast than the furling sail necessitating the additional structure
I know if I had em I'd be trippping on em all the time

Selden

Selden has beefed up the mast and no longer need them.
I have seen many Hunters with and with out the struts,I have seen INMAST with struts and also seen full batten main with struts also.
My 2007 Hunter 36 Roller furling main has no struts and love not having the struts.

I like the struts, it gives me something to hang on to when transitioning back and forth with a glass of wine in my hand...

How's the sailing Jim

Some say they love them and that's OK,I hated them and so far don't miss having them on my 36.
I am loving Florida.

Hi,

The roller furling main mast is also shorter than conventional mast.
I don't think so. In-mast furling has taller mast to make up for the lost in sail area (no roach). BTW, I love the strut. Strong hold when on deck.
