The past two seasons when we pull the boat out of the water the halyard for the Furlex roller furler sticks and will not release the sail. We have had not other unusual problems with the furler other than this. I have talked to others with same furler on their 340 at the Marina and theirs does the same thing. It sticks at the top and will not disconect. Anyone else experience this problem. Hate to have to go up and manually twist and disconnect. Thanks Chris Festina Tarde # 107

It's possible that...

...the swivel is rising too high on the extrusion and slipping off of the top. The luff of the sail may be too long; or the extrusion too short for the luff. Or it could be that the halyard has been pulled too tight and stretching the luff and swivel above the extrusion. Another thing may be that the sail attachment (tack) at the furler drum (head) may have too much length allowing the sail and swivel to rise up too far.

might be splice

Another theory: I have seen a couple of situations where the eye splice on the halyard gets "stuck" in the halyard sheave. The first 4-6" of the splice is normally thicker, and this can get jammed if you are working with a fairly narrow sheave. Solution may be to cut off splice and tie shackle with a bowline. If snap shackle attaches to a d-shackle on the halyard swivel, you may be able to eliminate the snap shackle altogether. At any rate, I would definitely recommend checking carefully for the problems mentioned in the previous response; they could be major problems if left unattended.

Jib Halyard 340

I have a Furlex furler on my 340. I have removed my jib numerous times like when a hurricane is coming and I have not had a sticking problem with the upper swivel. Lots of good suggestions in the previous posts. I did grease the bearings in the furler and that made an improvement in the furling.

splice

It's the splice. I had the same problem. The splice was to long and would jam in the sheave.
