My main Haylard is jaming in the clutch. May be swollen or incorrect size. What is the correct size for the main haylard if I go with Sta-set X ?

7/16?

Nick: I believe that it is 7/16. What I found with the Sta-set X, is that it is a different finish than the regular Sta-set. I used the X on my main halyard and then the regular on the jib halyards. I prefer the feel and flexibility of the regular. I realize that the X has less stretch.

3/8 ?

The sail shop I spoke to recommended 3/8 with the stronger capacity sta-set X line. I'm concerned about going so small.

Correct size

I would check with Hunter to be sure. I know my 28.5 had replaced halyards with 7/16 which would not run freely through the blocks and jammed in the clutch. I got a 3/8 replacement and it ran soooo much smoother. The mainsail actually dropped down when released. Bigger is not always better.

Forgot to ask!

Nick: I forgot to ask, what type (brand) of sheet stopper are you using?

Clutch

Don't know - Plastic handle which ingages serrated 1/4 round clutch. When it's wide open, have to pull line through. Last season, I removed the top piece, (no clutch) and used the winch to sinch it up.

from the sailnet catalog

i got my new halyard from sailnet.com free shipping. the standard length on a 3/8is 95ft and the standard length on a 7/16 is 115ft. the mast on the 34 is 46ft off the deck. Thattimes 2 is 92 ft and add maybe another 15-20ft to run the line back to the cockpit and have alittle extra. Conclusion is the 3/8 std of 95feet is too short for this application and dont think it is the right size anyway. craig
