34 Hunter insurance

My wife and I are looking to buy a Hunter 34 in the next few months. Any help would be appreciated in order to not hear myself say "if I had it to do over again". The thing that is most on my mind right now is insurance. If anyone has a hunter in the Gulf of Mexico and uses it to cruise to the Islands and to Mexico and maybe as far as Panama, could you give us some information about insurance. We plan on being gone for 6 months to one year. What company to use? What to look out for? Anything else anybody can think of. Thanks!!

Ditto oon the comment about relative value of West Marine Insurance - my policy with them is through St. Paul Insurance (I guess they just market through the west stores?) The amount I'm payig now for the same level of coverage is about 1/3 of what I was paying before - I would definately get a quote from West Marine before deciding. I cannot talk about their claim service, since I have luckily never had aclaim.

Try Boat US

I have had mine the last 6 years with Boat US. Cheapest I've found anywhere. Heard their claim service is 24-7, & they take good care of you, although I've been fortunate enough not to have to make use of it. Be sure to check the coverage for oil/fuel spills because the fines are big, and also the provisions for towing ($ amount and locations)BOLPJ
