Hunter 36 Punta Gorda
Intended Use

They are different in the 340 has the arch which I love having two Hunters with the arch, they are so easy to sail singled handed. The 336 does not have the arch and I think the main sheet is in the cockpit. Will you be racing and how many in your family and check the reviews on each boat in the archives plus what ever comments you get here. I had the 290 which was similar in set up except much bigger. Arch

The 340 is basically a 336 with an arch, fiberglass 97-99 and stainless steel 2000.

Almost identical except...

Nick has it right; almost the same boat (I'll bet the same hull), but the 340 has the new, overhead, arch, which I agree was a substantial improvement that opened up the cockpit. But I sail with 336 owners who enjoy their boats thoroughly. (The Information Center has the 340 as being built beginning in 2006, but that's wrong). 1997 must have been the crossover year. The other difference? A 336 will probably be about $10K less. Paul

340

I love this boat got the 2000 rather than the 99 because of the stainless steel arch there have been some comments on this forum re cracks on fiberglass arch We sail in the bay do an occasional week long trip FOr this use with shoal keel it is almost ideal Sailed with two labs for yrs open transome sure saved my back very livable and cockpit is super space for entertaining etc I put a full enclosure on a few years ago makes the cockpit like another salon Usually keep sides etc stripped off and sail with just dodger and bimini top but on a rainy weekend it is great to have Good luck with your decision t

Sticking to the 336

Thank you all for your answers ! As mentioned by many of you, it's about SAME SAME but... Arch ! Since I want to learn to sail the right way, the easyness of the arch might not be a + in a sense. I'm sure it must be very helpful when sailing solo, but I don't think it may worth the 10K$ extra cost. The 336 1997 are around 65K$ and adding 10K$ in new toys onboard might more valuable then sailing with an arch and an extra 6 inchs ! Thank You, I will stick to my first tought and go on with the 336. If any of you as other comments, they are still more then welcome ! Antoine
